It all started over 60 years ago when Hugh Scott who had always been an animal lover and his wife Doris Scott decided to go into showing dogs. Although Hugh had raced greyhounds for a few years, the breed they went into was Rough Collies. They showed the Collies for many years and then about 30 years ago they went into Shetland Sheepdogs as well as the Rough Collies. They showed the two breeds for many years, and then they began to become more interested in the Shelties. They has a Rough Collie bitch with a CC, but still prefered the Shelties.
Only eight years ago or so did they let the last of their show collies go, a litter brother and sister called Lance and Tilly. Lance was a beautiful dog and had gone to the Ayrshire Collie Club show at 6 months and won Best Puppy in Show. The bitch also had done a good bit of winning.

Leanda became interested in showing properly at about 5 years old and began to show in the Junior handling classes at the Scottish Shetland Sheepdog Club where she had Best handler about 10 times.

Doris was showing a young dog called Degallo The Hustler and two slightly older dogs Degallo The Cateran and Degallo Idle Talk. She was also showing a bitch puppy and dog. Eventually at about 10 years old Leanda was given the bitch puppy at about 10 months old. Her name was Degallo Blonde Babe or now known as GB Ch. Degallo Blonde Babe. Leanda and Blondie went to all the open shows and even as a puppy Blondie was getting Best of Breeds. As the bitch was winning more, Leanda began showing more.

When at Crufts in 2000 Blondie became very ill and was unable to be shown. Doris and Hugh have also bred another young dog Degallo The Rustler and were showing him. He was a son to Degallo The Cateran, who they had now retired, and at the same time had sold Degallo Idle Talk to J. Jaworska, also living in Scotland. She shows him very lightly, but has had a best in show at a club show with him. So with Blondie out of the ring and Doris showing The Rustler they decided to let Leanda show The Hustler. She showed him at all the big shows and eventually got his break at Belfast Championship show under judge Ian Nixon( Japaro). His next two CC’s were close to follow, his second from Coral Busby ( Cordu) at the Working and Pastoral Breeds of Scotland, where he also had BOB. He then travelled down to the Sheltie Club of North Wales and got CC number 3 and Best in Show from Alex Elder (Ellenyorn).

Blondie was now able to go back in the ring and was being shown at the Scottish Shetland sheepdog Club on June the 3rd 2001. Brenda and Diane were new friends of the “Degallos” and were invited back that night for a meal. They stayed untill late talking about dogs and they went home. Early the next morning Hugh died. The funeral was to be on the Thursday, this would have been his birthday.

Doris and Leanda carried on showing the Shelties and Degallo Smarty Pants was the first litter registered by Doris as hers. Later on saw the birth of others such as Degallo The Legend, who Leanda claimed as hers. Leanda showed Blondie and Oskar at all the big shows and at Scottish Kennel Club Show May 2002 Leanda and Doris took Oskar who got Best Puppy Dog and Blondie who got her first CC – judge was Mrs. Ann Stafford (Rannerdale). Leanda then took Blondie to SSCNI and gained her second CC- judge Tracy Gartland (Arcot). After a 14 month wait they went to Belfast Show where Blondie was crowned with her 3rd CC under judge Pat Wright ( La’rool) This is also where new puppy Look At Me had her first Best Puppy.

THIS WAS THE “HISTORY” UP TO 2003 …. FOR INFORMATION ON THE LAST 10 YEARS MOST OF THE DOGS CAN BE SEEN ON THE WEBSITE.

Highlights have of course been the fantastic wins of Ch Degallo The Real Deal, winning the CC at Crufts with Degallo The Likely Lad and having our new wonder boy Degallo The Ultimate who also has a CC to his credit.

Outside the show ring, Leanda now has 2 children, Jayden born 2009 and Chantelle born 2010. Also into the mix is Sophie, Leanda’s younger sister who can be seen in the ring showing Degallo Leave It To Me and Degallo The Prodigal son, as well as some of the youngsters on occasions.

Doris still lives in the same house she has been in for over 45 years.
